Best Benelli M4 Follower Upgrade: FFT 70054V High Visibility Follower Review & Build Upgrade
If you’re upgrading your Benelli M4 shotgun, the follower is one of those small parts that can make a big difference in both performance and appearance. In this post, I break down why I brought back the high visibility two-piece follower design with the FFT 70054V High Vis Follower, and how it compares to the standard factory follower. Whether you’re building, buying, or selling Benelli M4 parts, this upgrade offers improved visibility, smooth feeding, and a premium finish that elevates your shotgun build.

Hey folks, Todd at Freedom Fighter Tactical.
Back in the day, Benelli used to include a two-piece high visibility follower with every Benelli M4 shotgun. They stopped doing that about 15 or 16 years ago. In this video, I want to talk about why that changed—and what I decided to do about it.
When you used to buy a Benelli shotgun, you’d get a follower that looked like the classic two-piece design with a high visibility insert. Over time, Benelli moved away from that and switched to a solid aluminum follower, likely as a cost-saving measure.
Personally, I’ve always felt that the original high visibility followers were the better option. They add a nice visual element, they make the shotgun just a little more unique, and they’re simply more interesting overall.
So during the COVID timeframe, I decided to bring that design back.
I worked with one of my manufacturers to produce both the follower and the high visibility insert under one roof, and the result is the FFT 70054V High Vis Follower. These are available in a charcoal anodized finish and an MP3 coating.
Both finishes perform extremely well. They glide smoothly inside the magazine tube, and they’re easy to see when checking the status of your shotgun. While a standard solid follower works fine, these offer better visibility and a more premium feel.
Yes, they’re a little more expensive—but they’re also a nicer component. If you’re building out a high-end Benelli M4 or putting together a showpiece shotgun, this is one of those upgrades that just takes things up another level.
I personally like the MP3 coating the best, but the charcoal anodized version is very close to what Benelli originally used back when they included these in their shotguns.
At the end of the day, this is one of my favorite parts. It looks great, performs well, and customers love it just as much as I do.
