Benelli M4 Recoil Tubes Explained: Choosing the Right 70130, 70043, 1-Position, 3-Position or 6-Position Recoil Tube
One of the most common questions I receive from Benelli M4 owners is which recoil tube they need and why their collapsible stock won't adjust. In this article, I explain the differences between the 1-position, 3-position, and 6-position Benelli M4 recoil tubes, why the recoil tubeβnot the stockβdetermines adjustability, and the difference between the hollow OEM 70130 recoil tube and the fully assembled 70043 recoil tube. If you're building a Benelli M4 shotgun or upgrading your factory configuration, understanding these parts can save you time, money, and frustration.

One of the questions I'm asked most often is about Benelli M4 recoil tubes and which one someone should buy.
At Freedom Fighter Tactical, I offer one-position, three-position, and six-position recoil tubes because every Benelli M4 owner has different needs.
The one-position recoil tube is ideal for owners who live in states where a functioning collapsible stock isn't permitted. It allows the stock to remain in the fully collapsed position while complying with state restrictions.
The three-position recoil tube is the factory configuration used with the OEM Benelli 70085 collapsible stock. It also works with the factory field stock, the original pistol grip stock, and my FFT skeletonized stock. The one exception is the European-style collapsible stock, which requires a different recoil tube.
One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is that the stock determines whether it adjusts.
It doesn't.
The recoil tube determines how many adjustment positions your stock has.
If your recoil tube has one notch, your stock will only lock into one position.
If it has three notches, you'll have three adjustment positions.
If it has six notches, you'll have six positions.
Many Benelli M4 owners purchase a collapsible stock expecting it to adjust, only to discover they're still using a one-position recoil tube.
I also receive questions about the difference between the OEM 70130 and the OEM 70043 recoil tubes.
The 70130 is the hollow recoil tube only.
The 70043 comes with the internal components already installed. While it costs a little more, it saves you the time and frustration of transferring parts that can be difficult to remove and reinstall.
