Benelli M4 M1014 T-Pro LE Explained - There Is No Gen 1 / Gen 2 Benelli M4 Shotgun
In this video, I break down the truth about the so-called “Gen 2” Benelli M4 and explain why that label is misleading. What you're actually seeing is the T-Pro or M1014 LE version—designed for law enforcement use, not a replacement or upgrade to the original M1014. I walk you through the differences between the 70085 stock and the 70132 “Euro” stock, discuss 922r compliance, explain why the recoil tubes function differently, and debunk the idea that Benelli is responding to the Beretta 1301 or any other tactical shotgun. If you're building a Benelli M4 or just trying to make sense of all the misinformation online, this is the definitive video for you.
Here is a transcript of the video:

All right. Contrary to popular opinion, there is no Gen two Benelli M4. Let's get into it right now.00:00:09:07 - 00:00:19:15
Unknown
So over the last few years, Benelli has been selling a shotgun with a what I call the European stock on it. It's the 70132 stock.00:00:19:17 - 00:00:44:15
Unknown
It comes on a five position recoil tube. It comes with a, oversize bolt release button, an oversize charging handle, a rail system. I don't know who makes the rail system if it's somebody from Benelli or. But now he's doing it themselves, and it comes with a seven round mag tube. Okay. This version is not offered like the, like the traditional version of a skeletonized stock with the 70085 that we all know.00:00:44:17 - 00:01:06:09
Unknown
This version is not offered with a one position recoil tube. Okay, so it's only offered with a five position recoil tube. That means it comes into the country under nine 22 hour legally, because it's a law enforcement sale gun. It's not intended for consumer sales. If it was intended for consumer sales, it would be required to have a one position recoil tube on it.00:01:06:11 - 00:01:26:23
Unknown
And it would be required to have a five, five round magazine tube on it with the two round limiter. Okay. This is not a Gen two. This is not a gun that's taking over. It's not a response to Beretta 1301. It's not a response to somebody sig making some sort of tactical shotgun. It's not a response to that.00:01:27:01 - 00:01:49:00
Unknown
Okay. It is a law enforcement version. Gun. That's it. Okay. People say, well, I bought it at Cabela's or I bought it wherever. Well, a lot of people buy the original law enforcement version with a functioning collapsible stock and a seven round mag tube at Cabela's at wherever. Those guns aren't intended to be sold to the retail public either.00:01:49:00 - 00:02:10:18
Unknown
Those are intended for law enforcement sales. What I presume happens is a dealer orders in order to make the price break or quantity break or whatever it is they're trying to do. And maybe they have dealer. They have dealer accounts. Maybe they order 20 guns to get the price right. But the, the the the law enforcement account is only taking 18 of them, so there's two left over.00:02:10:23 - 00:02:24:23
Unknown
Well, but now he doesn't want those sent back to Italy. But now he doesn't. I mean, there's no real way of earmarking those two and sending them to the next dealer who's got a law enforcement account. They just stick them on their shelf and get rid of them. Okay. That's why you don't see them all over the place.00:02:24:23 - 00:02:45:02
Unknown
And that's why whenever you find a law enforcement version, whether it's got the 70085 stock on it or the 70132 version on it, if that's what you're shopping for, that's the one you get. But when people attach Gen two to this version, it's called a T pro. And I don't know why they call it a T pro, but it's called a T pro.00:02:45:04 - 00:03:07:22
Unknown
And the reason people are calling it a Gen two, I think people are believing that this is the new version of the original law enforcement version, and intended for consumer sales. It's just simply not. It's a it's simply a law enforcement gun only. And that's what it's intended for. Law enforcement was complaining about the original law enforcement shotgun with the 70085 stock on it.00:03:08:00 - 00:03:33:12
Unknown
Sometimes those stocks are hard to move from one position to the next. Anybody who's been doing Benelli for a long time knows that that can be a tricky, difficult thing to find the removal spot and to find each position because it's stiff. It's it it slides wonky, it sticks. And I believe that's because of the extreme heat treat that's put on the tubes that work with that particular stock.00:03:33:14 - 00:04:00:17
Unknown
I do not believe the same heat treat is applied to the tubes on the European style. When everyone's calling the Gen2, the notches for those stocks are stronger. They have two notches for every position. They're square like a box cut. They're just it's just a very strong type of build where the almond cuts and the almond notches on the original law enforcement version with the 70085 stock, they're not as strong out of the gate.00:04:00:19 - 00:04:28:06
Unknown
So they have the tubes been heat treated and then the notches have been extra heat treated. That's why there's the yellow or the graying around each notch is that's an extra layer of heat treat on those notches so that they don't give. But what the all the heat treat does is, is it puts a slight curvature in the tube and makes it difficult to move from one position to the next, where the the 70132 version stock with the recoil tubes that go with that don't have that same heat treat applied.00:04:28:08 - 00:04:51:20
Unknown
At least not to the extreme that the other one does. So, when you buy, when you get one of these guns, you're not getting like, it's not like the new thing. It's not. I mean, it might be the new thing for law enforcement, but it's not replacing anything. Okay? It's not you know, when people think of Gen two, they think, okay, the gen ones retired, they've made improvements, they've made that these are the new changes.00:04:51:20 - 00:05:09:01
Unknown
This is what they're selling now. No, they're still selling the original all day long. In fact, they're that's what they're selling is the original the the TI pros, the Gen twos that are getting through to you guys are just simply guns that didn't go to law enforcement and wound up on a store shelf. That's it. They're not an answer to Beretta.00:05:09:06 - 00:05:32:12
Unknown
They're not an answer to sig. They're not. You know, the Benelli M4 doesn't answer to anybody. Benelli M4 is the only shotgun on the planet that's built from the ground up to be a battle shotgun. Okay, 13 oh, ones and all these other guns. Everyone's buying. Those are guns that are repurposed, hunting and three gun guns. They put police looking stuff on there, and now it's a tactical shotgun.00:05:32:14 - 00:05:51:20
Unknown
It's not the same as a Benelli M4. But now he doesn't have to answer to anybody. But now he doesn't have to respond to anybody. But now he has the military contracts. Benelli has the Marines. Benelli has law enforcement contracts. Not that these other guns haven't had any of their own law enforcement contracts. I truly don't know. But that's what historically the M4 has been all about.00:05:51:20 - 00:06:15:03
Unknown
Was law enforcement and military sales. That's it. That was the whole intent of the shotgun was to be the world's, law enforcement and military shotgun and consumers, retail guys like you and me, we're afterthoughts. We're just, you know, we want what the military gets. So that's why we want the shotgun. But the 1301 is not an alternative to this gun.00:06:15:03 - 00:06:37:18
Unknown
Whatever sig might be making is not an alternative to this gun. There is no alternative. This gun. This gun is the gun. It's the gun. And if you're out there and you're thinking, I got all these shotguns to pick, you know, they're all pretty much the same. They're not the same. Not even close. Okay, so, you know, I did want to do a video to send everyone to the gen to anybody who asked me.00:06:37:18 - 00:06:57:03
Unknown
Gen one. Gen two. What's this? What's that? This is the video I'm going to send everybody to because it's a bunch of nonsense, okay? It it is the nicest thing about calling it the Gen two is when you call it agenda. When anybody online or in a video or in a forum says, hey, I got a new Gen two, everybody knows exactly which gun they got.00:06:57:05 - 00:07:23:03
Unknown
That, in my opinion, is the only beneficial thing about calling it Gen two. Again, calling it Gen two makes people think that the Gen one is old, decrepit, replaced, improved upon all that stuff. That's not the case at all, okay? It's just simply this is an alternative version for law enforcement who wanted an easier way to send the stock from one to a different position.00:07:23:03 - 00:07:42:04
Unknown
So that's it. That's all that this is about. So when you are out there reading the forums, watching videos, shopping dealers, you know exactly what's going on and why.
